This postcard comes from Jordan, from another trip my friend Federica took in April 2019 to celebrate her birthday.
“For my 30th birthday, I gifted myself with a trip – my very first solo trip, and I picked Jordan. The last stop of this solo trip was the Wadi Rum desert.
I went on a full day safari, sharing a jeep with other people. The landscape, with the expanse of red sand left breathless. Wed rove through so many canyons and we even climbed a few. My favourite was one where you could see Nabataean inscriptions on one side of the canyon, and Islamic inscriptions on the other.
There were also very tall sand dunes, to sink our feet in. Our guide cooked us lunch in the desert and and the safari ended with an unforgettable sunset, watching the sun disappear behind the dunes and the sky becoming full of incredible colours.
We ate dinner all together in a share tent, surrounded by the smoke of nargiles and the sound of live traditional music, and I slept in a Bedouin tent. Obviously, I took a moment before going into my tent, to look at the starry sky for a while.
